Expedition Guide

Start Here

Everything you need to do before your first battle in the Blighted Wilds.

First create your persistent Path to Glory force, prepare your commander and campaign options, then register your expedition with Jack before you play.

  1. 01.Create Your Commander

This campaign follows the exploits of each player’s own expedition and the commander who leads it. Choose that hero before you write the rest of the roster.

    • Anvil of Apotheosis lets supported factions create their own HERO. That makes an excellent expedition commander for a narrative Path to Glory campaign.
    • If your faction does not currently have applicable AoS4 Anvil rules, choose an appropriate normal HERO instead.
    • Do not use unsupported, outdated, or older-edition Anvil rules.
  2. 02.Muster 1,000 Points

Our campaign uses the Blighted Wilds suggested starting Path to Glory roster limit.

    1,000points

    • This is your starting Path to Glory roster. It persists and develops throughout the campaign — it is not a disposable army list for game one.
    • Units will gain experience, and the roster can change as the expedition develops.

    Initial preparation

    • Choose your faction
    • Select your general
    • Organise your regiments
    • Add permitted units
    • Prepare any relevant faction terrain
  3. 03.Choose Your General’s Path

Paths describe how warriors develop during the campaign. Your general does not begin as an unknown quantity — they already have a foothold on their Path.

    • The general begins with 5 Renown Points.
    • That places them at Aspiring rank.
    • Choose an eligible Path for the general.
    • Choose 1 Aspiring Path ability from that Path.

Further abilities can be earned as units gain Renown. You do not need to learn every Path before the first game — only the one your general embarks on now.

  4. 04.Prepare Your Arcane Tome

If your army uses magic, prayers, or manifestations, prepare your starting Path to Glory Arcane Tome before game one. Only the categories that apply to your force need to be selected.

    • Up to 3 spells from one eligible faction spell lore
    • Up to 3 prayers from one eligible faction prayer lore
    • Up to 3 SUMMON spells/prayers from one eligible manifestation lore

Record these selections. The Arcane Tome is part of your persistent Path to Glory campaign information, not a one-game choice.

  5. 05.Prepare Your Encampment

A starting Path to Glory roster can include the appropriate faction terrain, and can make use of the Blighted Wilds Landmarks of Ghyran system where it applies.

Landmarks of Ghyran are custom features your expedition can make use of during its journey through Thyria.

  6. Field action

    06.Register Your Expedition

Before your first game, send Jack your starting expedition details so your commander page can be added to the campaign site.

Your commander page will track your roster, battles and progress through the Blighted Wilds.

    • Army / expedition name
    • Expedition commander name

  • Battle Scars can become lasting parts of a unit’s campaign history.
