Expedition Guide
Playing a Battle
How to arrange, prepare for, and play a campaign battle in the Blighted Wilds.
Arrange a game, pick a battleplan both expeditions can reach, muster from your rosters, then fight. Post-battle resolution lives in its own guide.
01.Find an Opponent
Arrange a battle with another expedition in the campaign. You may play anyone, provided there is a battleplan available to both of you.
One player. One battle. One Round.
- The campaign progresses in Rounds. Each Round is expected to last roughly one month.
- Each player plays one campaign battle per Round.
- Once everyone has played their battle, or chosen to sit that Round out, the next Round begins.
- You do not need to wait for the other battles in the current Round before playing your own.
- Once you have completed your battle for the Round, wait until the next Round begins before playing another campaign battle.
The point of Rounds is to keep expedition progression roughly together, not to make the calendar feel heavy.
02.Choose a Battleplan
After you have an opponent, open the Chronicle and use the shared campaign map. Your current positions show which battleplans are available to each expedition.
- Identify a battleplan that is available to both expeditions.
- Agree that battleplan before you muster or set up the table.
03.Muster Your Armies
Both players muster an army from the units available on their expedition roster, up to the battle size you have agreed for the game.
- Your Path to Glory roster is your persistent campaign force. You do not have to take every unit into every battle.
- Agree the points size before you start writing lists from your rosters.
Use Age of Sigmar 4th Edition points and muster rules. Do not invent extra army-construction limits beyond what the campaign and Core Rules already require.
04.Pre-Battle Sequence
With armies mustered and a battleplan chosen, follow the Path to Glory Battles sequence in the Blighted Wilds rules before the first turn begins.
- Set up the battlefield for the selected battleplan, including objectives where the plan requires them.
- Resolve contamination, resting units, and any other pre-battle steps given in the Blighted Wilds Path to Glory Battles rules.
- Deploy using the Core Rules, modified by the battleplan’s Deployment instructions and any Uneven Armies rules that apply.
05.Play the Battle
Play the selected battleplan using the normal Age of Sigmar 4th Edition rules, together with that battleplan’s special rules and objectives.
Keep the Core Rules and battleplan text at the table rather than reproducing them here. Use the battleplan’s Wahapedia entry from the Chronicle map when you need the full write-up.
06.Post Game
When the battle is finished, both players should complete the Post Game process. That is where you resolve the result, work through the Aftermath Sequence, and report the outcome so the Chronicle can be updated.
